Belgrade - Downtown and the Waterfront
Downtown Belgrade
Downtown Belgrade waas a big surprise to me - it is a vibrant blend of history and modernity, where charming cobblestone streets wind their way past eclectic cafés and boutiques bursting with local character. As you stroll through the lively squares, the captivating architecture—from austere Soviet-style buildings to ornate Austro-Hungarian façades—tells the tale of the city’s rich past. Ancient buildings housing all sorts of businesses, blending with high end fashion stores in modern, trendy, architect designed structures and all in a relaxed atmosphere.
The buzz of street performers and the tantalising smell of freshly baked pastries and all sorts of other incredible food fill the air, inviting you to pause and soak in the lively atmosphere. By night, the city transforms; outdoor terraces buzz with laughter and chatter, creating an electrifying energy that makes exploring Belgrade’s nightlife an absolute must.
Belgrade Waterfront
Another big surprise to me was the ‘still to be finished’, Belgrade Waterfront. It is such a contrast to the historic architecture surrounding this area that it seems to fit with the new Belgrade lifestyle, which fights to blend seamlessly with old school and cherished Serbian values.
The New Belgrade Waterfront is a dazzling transformation that blends modern urban design with the charm of the Sava River. This sleek development showcases a mix of high-rise apartments, bustling cafes, and lush promenades, making it a vibrant hub where locals and visitors can unwind and soak in the views.
Picture yourself strolling along the riverside, where art installations and green spaces invite leisurely picnics, while the lively atmosphere buzzes with the sounds of laughter and music. Safe, interesting, lively, affordable, and a happy place to experience!
At Night!
As daylight fades, the waterfront comes alive with illuminated buildings reflecting off the water, offering a perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening stroll under the Serbian sky. Belgrade transforms in to a completely different place at night. People here never seems to sleep and the buildings are transformed with amazing lighting and seem to literally come alive!
If you only check out one thing at night in Belgrade, make sure it’s he monument ofStefan Nemanja. Located on Sava Square in Belgrade, in front of the former Main Railway Station., it is dedicated to the great prefect Stefan Nemanja, the ancestor of the Serbian medieval dynasty Nemanjići. It was erected on January 21, 2021. It is way larger than it looks!
